Kacheguda Railway Station, located in Hyderabad, India, is renowned not only for its functional importance as a railway junction but also for its striking architectural design. One of its most distinctive features is its facade lighting, which enhances the station’s aesthetic appeal and visibility, especially during the night.

The facade lighting project at Kacheguda Railway Station was executed by Leksa Lighting recently. A total of 785 luminaires was used in this complex and prestigious lighting project where the lights were strategically placed to accentuate the architectural elements of the station building, and to showcase its intricate design and historical significance. The use of lights illuminates the facade in a way that draws attention to its grandeur and highlights its unique features. This not only beautifies the station but also creates a sense of pride and identity for the local community.

For this high-end creative lighting design and project execution concerning prestigious or preserved sites under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), more attention is needed. The lights used are completely outdoor rated, and can withstand dust, heavy rain and the elements. Here, the selection of different types of luminaires driven by the latest LED and laser technology is crucial. The lights or semiconductors are completely environmentally friendly or UV-free, with RoHS certification. A wide variety of RGBW linear wall grazers, wall washers, and spotlights of differing wattages are carefully selected based on the creative lighting design, output, and intensity required. These lights are completely controlled by a Digital Multiplex network, here up to 16 million different color combination can be done & controlled with the help of advanced lighting technology. A high wattage Gobo Projector light was also used to project lighting patterns at the very heart of the façade. Customised glowing structural elements – giraffe, elephant and pandas have also been placed near the entrance of the railway station, to enhance the child-friendly ambience of the place.

The key objective of the design was to highlight the objects, wash the surfaces and creating sharp detailing. The type of Luminaires considered are of Outdoor Type RGBW LED, Outdoor Rated with inbuilt DMX decoder that supports 512 DMX /RDM Control System & Secondary optics suitable for various lighting schemes. The colour temperature, lumen, wattage and beam angle are critical factors that carefully matches the concept with technicalities in getting the desired outcomes.

The facade lighting at Kacheguda Railway Station contributes significantly to the station’s ambiance and atmosphere.
